Darren Johnston

DARREN JOHNSTON:

With 35 years involvement in Rugby League as a player at schoolboy, club and rep level; then as a League Safe, Sports Trainer and Assistant and Head Coach upon hanging up the boots, Darren Johnston is an experienced Level 2 accredited Senior Club Coach, Level 1 Strength & Conditioner and Level 1 Wrestle Coach.

At Marsden SHS, Mr Johnston heads up our Year 9 Broncos Cup  and  Year 7 Mako Pups programs in 2018.

Mr J is also Coach of our Program’s Opens GIO Trophy team and part of Joe O’Callaghan’s GIO Cup match day staff.

In addition to these Marsden based roles, Mr Johnston is the current Met-East U12’s Coach, a position he has held for the past 4 years, winning the State Championships in 2017.

He is also the U15 Logan District Coach which took out the District Championships in in 2018, and, was a selector for the Met East U15 team.

Mr Johnston is also Assistant Coach for the Burleigh Colts U20s team in the state wide Hastings Deering competition.


Mr Johnston has previously coached at Cyril Connell (U16’s), Mal Meninga (U18’s) and Gold Coast Titans (U18’s) Invitational levels.

He has worked as Coaching Director at one of the Gold Coast’s rugby league clubs, overseen a ‘Scenic Rim Development Squad’ and more.
