[ Marsden State High School’s year 9 Rugby League side wins the top tier high school Rugby League competition in South East Queensland! ]
After successfully defeating Palm Beach Currumbin (PBC) in the SEQ semi-final, our Marsden State High School’s Year 9 Rugby League side came up against Wavell State High School in the ‘Michael Hancock Cup’ Grand Final at Pizzey Park, Miami.
Our team went into half-time 14-12 down after a tough first half that had seen us come back from 8-0 down early on.
The second half had both teams wrestle for the lead until the full-time siren went with teams locked at 18 points a piece.
After a powerful first half of golden point extra-time, our Yr 9 Marsden Makos fought hard for dominant field position which ultimately led to a penalty being awarded 20m out and to the left of the uprights.
Hooker Mika Cooper-Finau stepped up and calmly kicked the winning penalty goal before being swamped by team mates and fellow M.S.H.S. student supporters as the referee blew his full-time whistle!
Marsden State High School victors 20-18!!!
Special mention to the following Makos who stood up and led with both words and actions on the field; Ezra Teuila (Pictured above), Nivatial Faafua, Tristan Pati, Devereaux Goldsmith and Grand Final man of the match Tyrone Sa’U.
