Year 6 Trial Day

Each year, a special trial day is held on the Marsden State High School oval to select suitable athletes for our Year 7 Mako Pups Squad and entry into our famous Rugby League Excellence Program.

Applicants traditionally come from ‘in’ and ‘out’ of catchment areas and all are welcome to attend our trial.

Try-outs consist of a series of skill audits (e.g. Pass, Catch, Carry, 1 on 1 tackling) and opposed sessions in which students are assessed by Program Coaches, including the Head Year 7 Coach, the Director of Rugby League Excellence and our program’s Strength & Conditioner.

Students’ results on school report cards are also taken into consideration with the student’s behaviour and effort in all subjects being a significant consideration.

Parents of potential sports excellence students are asked to please visit our school’s parent foyer to collect a registration pack and then return that pack at least 3 days prior to the day.

Any prospective students wishing to apply for a rugby league scholarship should download the appropriate form HERE and return it with their registration pack to the parent foyer.

Successful applicants are notified the following week by their primary school principal or by mail.  Positions are confirmed only when the enrollment pack and appropriate fee have been submitted to our school’s front office.

** Please note Rugby League trials for students entering Year 7 in 2017 have already taken place. They traditionally take place in term 2 each year.  Vacancies remain available for next year for potential scholarship holders or players of similar playing ability only **
